Lift Africa Foundation Empowers 240 Women Farmers in Kano, Linking Skills to Girls’ Education and Food Security

Lift Africa Foundation has successfully trained 240 women in Kura Local Government, Kano State, in advanced skills for rice parboiling, maize processing, and groundnut oil production. This initiative directly links women’s economic empowerment to girls’ education, protection, and food security.

This intervention formed part of Lift Africa Foundation’s Clear Her Path program — a flagship initiative addressing the interconnected challenges of poverty, gender inequality, and child vulnerability in Northern Nigeria. The program targets the mothers and caregivers of girls benefiting from the From Streets to Classrooms project, ensuring that education for girls is not disrupted by household poverty or dependence.

Empowering Mothers, Protecting Daughters

By equipping women with productive tools and skills, Lift Africa Foundation ensures that families can sustain their children’s education, reduce child labour, and prevent school dropouts. Many of the women trained were caregivers of girls previously at risk of exploitation or early marriage.

Each group of 60 women received hands-on technical training in modern agricultural and processing techniques designed to improve both output and income generation.

Equipment distributed included:
• Rice Parboiling: Commercial parboiling units, automated huskers, mechanical dryers, rice polishers, and milling machines.
• Maize Processing: Grinders, dehullers, threshers, and flour milling units.
• Groundnut Oil Processing: Mechanical oil presses, decorticators, and filtering machines.

These tools enable participants to move from subsistence production to small-scale entrepreneurship — increasing household income while strengthening food security.

The Multiplier Effect of Women’s Empowerment

Under the Clear Her Path model, empowerment does not stop with the initial trainees. Each group of 60 women is mandated to mentor and train another 60 every quarter — creating a sustainable ripple effect of skill transfer and collective growth.

By December 2025, this model is projected to reach over 5,000 women, equipping them with vital livelihood skills and business knowledge that directly improve their families’ welfare and girls’ educational access.

“This program empowers women to improve their livelihoods while supporting their daughters’ education and protection,” said Aisha Hamman, Founder & CEO of Lift Africa Foundation. “Every woman trained becomes a change-maker — extending these benefits to her family, her community, and the next generation.”

Addressing Interconnected Challenges

The Clear Her Path program is designed to respond to the overlapping realities many Northern women face — limited income, gender-based violence, and systemic exclusion from productive opportunities.
Its integrated approach focuses on:
• Keeping girls in school and reducing child labour.
• Strengthening women’s financial independence and dignity.
• Building community networks that protect children from exploitation and abuse.
• Linking women’s livelihoods to education and food security outcomes.

Through Clear Her Path, Lift Africa Foundation proves that when women earn, girls learn — and when families thrive, communities move closer to justice, dignity, and sustainable development.
