Strengthening Partnerships for Girls’ Education: Lift Africa Foundation Meets with the Global Partnership for Education and Kano State Ministry of Education

In a decisive step toward advancing education for children across Kano State, Lift Africa Foundation convened a strategic meeting with the State Coordinator of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the Director of Development and Partnership at the Kano State Ministry of Education.

The high-level discussion focused on identifying practical solutions to persistent challenges in the education sector — including resource deficits, gender disparities, and policy bottlenecks that limit opportunities for girls.

Participants explored how improved collaboration between civil society, development agencies, and government can transform learning outcomes and create inclusive education systems that leave no child behind.

Key Focus Areas of the Discussion

The meeting centered on four critical pillars to strengthen the education ecosystem in Kano State:
• Enhancing educational infrastructure and learning resources to create safer and more supportive environments for girls.
• Leveraging partnerships to design and implement innovative programs that boost school attendance, retention, and academic performance.
• Supporting vulnerable children through targeted interventions such as scholarships, mentorship, and psychosocial support to reduce dropout rates.
• Aligning interventions with state policy priorities to ensure long-term sustainability, systemic adoption, and measurable impact.

Building the Foundation for Lasting Impact

This strategic dialogue laid the groundwork for a partnership that would later drive tangible change:
Through the World Bank-supported GPE program, Lift Africa Foundation successfully facilitated the identification and enrollment of over 2,000 children under the GPE program in various public schools , ensuring that vulnerable girls gained and maintained access to formal education.

The collaboration also reinforced the importance of community engagement and data-driven planning in tackling barriers such as poverty, early marriage, and gender-based violence, all of which continue to impede girls’ learning journeys in Northern Nigeria.

“Real transformation begins when partnerships are intentional, inclusive, and rooted in justice,” said Aisha Hamman, Founder and Executive Director of Lift Africa Foundation.
“Our commitment is not only to enroll girls in school, but to ensure they thrive, lead, and reshape their own futures.”

By connecting policy dialogue with grassroots action, Lift Africa Foundation continues to bridge the gap between resources and reality — ensuring that children l, particularly girls, have the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead with dignity.
